Belgium is a nice and quiet country. I found the city of Bruges and the old city district of Brussels (the Grand Place/Grote Markt) to be especially appealing for nice walks , good food and beautifully preserved historical buildings.

Two interesting attractions in Brussels are the Retro SciFi styled Atomium monument (which can be toured inside) and the Mini Europe park with replica models of major buildings in all EU countries.

You'll find plenty of EU institutions located in Brussels if you're interested in the inner workings of the European Union, including the European Commission, the EU Council and the European Parliament.

Bruge is a nice and romantic town with plenty of photo opportunities. Food is good throughout Belgium, with a local Leffe beer and Belgian Waffles highly recommended. I can also confirm that Belgium's reputation for fine chocolate and sweets is well deserved - their quality and range are unmatched.
