Taiwan
I love the modern, sophisticated and highly-developed cities of SE Asia, and enjoyed my previous visits to Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Macau. Taipei in Taiwan was also very cool and interesting. I didn't spend a lot of time, but I had enough to see some of the main sights and appreciate the city's vibe, culture and food.
Taipei's most iconic sight is the cool-looking Taipei 101 building. Formerly the tallest building in the world between 2004 and 2010 at 508 metres, Taipei 101 offers great views of the city from its observation deck. The building's 660 tonne tuned mass damper is also on display.
After visiting Taipei 101 you can find the hiking trail on the nearby Elephant Mountain for more nice views of the city. Another impressive sight is Liberty Square and the Chiang Kai Shek memorial dedicated to one of the most important figures in modern Taiwan's history.
You can't visit Taipei without checking out some of its traditional (food) night markets which are awesome. I visited Ningxia and Shiling markets which presented an amazing range of food weirdness. My eventual choices were absolutely delicious, though.
