Thailand (updated)

Thailand is a great cultural, holiday and culinary destination. The capital of Bangkok is a vibrant and cool city with a blend of traditional and modern features. Interesting sites include the wonderfully bizarre King Power Mahanakhon building (314 metres in height), Wat Arun and Wat Pho temples, the splendid Grand Palace together with its Emerald Buddha temple (Wat Phra Kaew) and Khaosan Road. Exploring the various parts of the city by tuk-tuk, skytrain, boats and walking is an experience in itself.

The island of Phuket and nearby Phang Nga have nice resorts to enjoy private beaches while sipping away at colourful cocktails. I stayed at Aleenta and Natai Beach resorts and had a great time. They both had beautiful beaches, excellent food, including some delicious curries, and good massage options.

For endless entertainment options head to Patong on Phuket island. You'll find a wide range of bars, restaurants, markets, beaches, shopping, massage parlours, spas, clubs and much more. Other options include the very nice parade and light show at Carnival Magic, interacting with tigers at Tiger Kingdom, the SkyWalk at Hanuman World and going on snorkeling trips to spot marine life such as beautiful coral, colorful fish, large starfish, giant clams, jellyfish and the occasional sea snake (phuket-scuba.com was a good option for snorkeling).

A snorkeling trip to the beautiful Phi Phi islands was another wonderful experience, but this place gets pretty crowded.

Thailand also has endless massage options, fantastic food (some of the best I've had in my entire life), the very good Thai milk tea, coconut milk coffee and varied delicious fruits (mangosteen, mango and passionfruit were my favorites).
